A Special Saturday!

Our first little grand-daughter Emerson came to spend the day with us on Saturday.

I'm not sure if this is spoiling but what ever she wanted to do we did. We made memories at nanny's house , so I guess that isn't considered spoiling! When you are the grandma your time together is short and special you do what you have to do to make them want to come again.

Emerson just turned 4 Aug 8. Let me just say... Little girls should stay 4 forever!

I don't think she stopped talking all day, she talked about everything and anything. For this day we were buddies. Where ever I went she went and we had a really fun day. She's a girl who's on the same page as I am... she can read my heart. She wanted to have a picnic with every meal so we did. So honey, dear husband, this is the reason why we can't get rid of the picnic table that weighs a ton and i'm sorry that it is a pain to move every time you have to mow the lawn... It is really heavy but it just is part of me it needs to stay for her and those who follow... for MEMORIES sake :0). Just think how much I love you everytime you move it!

She wanted to pick flowers for our picnic so we did. She helped me to pick out a jar to put the flowers in. She said it was "PERFECT".

She wanted to have pancakes for lunch so we did. She was my little helper as we made the pancake mix. Emerson wanted to have spaghetti for supper so we did and Opa made a fire so we could eat spaghetti by a camp fire. When it was time to go home she didn't want to go . After church on Sunday, she wanted to come back and eat lunch with us again, so she did. And we had another picnic for lunch! She read stories to me while I took a nap! She wasn't tired! She wanted some candy and I said, "How about a fresh peach?" so we sat on the front porch and ate our sliced peach together. I said," Wasn't that better than candy?" and she said, "IT WAS". We went to the Frosty Udder for Ice Cream and she said on the way, "Call Billy and tell him not to come and get me, tell him I want to stay for "A LOT" and Opa said "You want to stay longer?" and she said," NO, A LOT."
It is good to be grandparents! Spoil them (I mean love them to Pieces) and send them home again!
I am going to share with you our recipe for Oatmeal pancakes. We are passing on the memory from my children now to my grandchildren.
1Cup Oat Bran
3 Cups white flour
3 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups butter or margarine
4 cups oatmeal (I use quick oats)
In a large bowl sift together Oat bran cereal, flour , baking powder, salt , sugar. Stir in brown sugar mix well. With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until evenly distributed. Add Oats and continue mixing with pastry blender until the butter is evenly mixed and pea size. Place in a large airtight container. Label and store in refrigerator.
1 1/3 cup hot water
1 egg slightly beaten
In a medium bowl, combine oatmeal mix , water and egg. Blend well. Let stand 5 Minutes. Batter should be a nice consistency and not look watery. If it looks a little to thin add another tablespoon or two of mix. These are best as thin pancakes so Pour batter onto hot griddle and spread out batter with the back of a spoon until they are about 1/4" thick. Turn when they start to look dry on top and nicely browned on the bottom.
We have never had anyone not like them.
Happy MEMORIES to you and yours.
